Overview
Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a particular way of talking with people about change and growth to strengthen their own motivation and commitment to change (Miller and Rollnick, 2023). MI is particularly useful to help people when ambivalence is high, and people are stuck in mixed feelings about change. MI is an evidenced-based method that has been evaluated in more than 2,500 research trials demonstrating a rich evidence base in health & social care practice. This training provides an interactive and practical learning experience in MI.
Aim
To begin or refresh participant knowledge and skills in MI practice which will begin to support implementation into the participants’ own practice setting.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the training participants will be able to:
- Describe what motivational interviewing is.
- Discuss how MI spirit, OARS and techniques can be used to support motivation for change.
